Labour Day dates back to 1872 when the Toronto Trades Assembly organized Canada's first demonstration for worker's rights. The purpose of the demonstration was to release the 24 leaders of the Toronto Typographical Union, imprisoned for striking to campaign for a nine-hour working day. It was the first step to improving working condition...this is a federal holiday worth celebrating.
