OPP and Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre Raise Awareness of 20 Years of Fighting Fraud

A Useful Information Link on Scams and Frauds

(MIDLAND,ON) - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) are continuing to raise the awareness for North Simcoe residents of the various scams that they may encounter on the telephone or online.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Fraud Prevention Month. The theme of this year's campaign is "20 years of fighting fraud: From then to now." With this theme, we'll be exploring how certain frauds have evolved with the rise of the digital age, drawing insightful comparisons between the past and present.

The following link from the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) will provide you with some interesting insight into the number and real cost of scams and how to identify and protect yourself from government and other types of scams and frauds.

Anyone who suspects they have been the victim of cybercrime or fraud should report it to their local police and to the CAFC's online reporting system or by phone at 1-888-495-8501. If not a victim, report it to the CAFC anyway.
