Best Wishes for a Safe New Year!
SAFETY FIRST OVER THE NEW YEARS HOLIDAY
(Central Region OPP)- The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind you to have a safe New Year’s holiday with these timely reminders for the season so that we can all enjoy the holidays.
Driving tips: Make a safe plan to and from your holiday celebrations by planning ahead, arranging a ride, planning to take a taxi or plan to stay. Arrive Alive! Always drive according to the weather conditions, “if you see snow, go slow”. Check weather conditions before heading out by visiting the Ministry of Transportation’s website at: www.ontario.ca/511Or dial 511, TTY 1-(866)471-8929.
Ice Safety tips: Remember that with the recent range in temperatures, some lakes are beginning to freeze but the OPP would like to remind everyone to check ice conditions before venturing out. Check out The Ministry of Natural Resources website for safe ice guidelines by using the link provided, https://www.ontario.ca/environment-and-energy/ice-fishing
Motorized Snow Vehicle (MSV) Safety: There is generally an increased use of the local MSV trails due to the holidays, OPP Officers will be conducting mobile trail enforcement, R.I.D.E and conducted speed enforcement on multi use trails that many community members use for walking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Remember to share the trail, enjoy snowmobiling sober and put safety first. Remember that you must have the permission of the property owner to take your snowmobile on their property unless you are on a designated trail.
Regional Commander of Central Region OPP, Chief Superintendent John Tod states, “I would like to wish everyone a safe holiday season and thank you to all those drivers that plan ahead at this time of year, we all share the responsibility to be safe on our roads and trails”.
