September 11 and 12, 2010 - Image M...anipulation Instructor: Denis Cliff Fee: Quest members $100, Non-members $120 Times: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gain a sense of the dynamics that affect every painting in order to better control the elements of your work so they function more effectively. Learn to organize, manipulate and control elements such as subject matter, colour, line, texture, space (both positive and negative), shape or any other element that suits your particular interest. Discover the dynamics of composition and how different kinds of form can be arranged to create tension and force to produce power or, conversely, to produce harmony, rhythm or movement. You will also explore the "push/pull" effect of colour and value. These and other factors will be discussed in group and individual critiques, and you will receive personal attention in a non-threatening, supportive environment. Some exercises will be given in drawing to help speed up the process. Denis, a member of the Royal Canadian Academy, studied at the University of Victoria, earning a B.Ed. Following post-graduate studies at Toronto's New School of Art, he began showing paintings, drawings, sculpture and installations. He has taught at York University, the University of Toronto, Ryerson, OCAD, Emily Carr College, the New School of Art, Art's Sake Inc., and many other educational institutions, including the Toronto School of Art.

Quest Art School + Gallery's Second Annual Steam Roller Printmaking Event was held on Saturday, July 24, 2010 in Midland, on Dominion Avenue, just a block from our location at 264 King Street. Thi...s year participating artists included Marilyn Green, Rod Prouse, Xavier Fernandes, Merrilyn Pinkney, Tamara Benoit and Sharon MacKinnon. Each artist created their own oversized woodblock plate which was inked-up and printed with the aid of a steam roller - that's right, they drove right over the printing plate to make giant, original relief prints. Each artist has donated one print for auction, with proceeds going to Quest Art School & Gallery's educational programs. The prints will be on display at Quest Art School & Gallery from August 9 to September 16, 2010. The closing reception will take place on September 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. Images of the prints may be seen on the website. Bid will be accepted in the gallery and on-line by e-mailing questart1@rogers.com. On-line bids will be accepted until 5 p.m. on September 16, 2010. Bids will be accepted by phone and in-person ONLY between 5 and 8 p.m. on September 16. The auction closes at 8 p.m., September 16.
