We chose the name "HERO Centre" as it denotes the heroic steps people with mental illness take in living with their illness and also identifies the services provided within the Centre: Housing, Employment & Education, Recreation, and Our Place Social Club.
Rehabilitation Services provides orientation to ensure clients are aware of the range of available services. The "It's Your Recovery" group, which is a supportive, open environment for participants to discuss their experience as they journey towards wellness, encourages clients to make a personal plan to reach their goals.
Program modules are facilitated exploring a variety of employment topics of interest.
Individual career counselling is available for career assistance and planning.
Career Connection is a career readiness course that assists individuals to explore their skills, interests and experience in the development of resumes, interview skills, job search and job maintenance.
Our new classroom provides all the space and resources required.
Opportunities are provided for computer training as well as links and supports to academic education.
Leisure counseling provides an opportunity for participants to learn about their leisure interests, resources in the community and tips to access these resources.
Activities are provided to meet the identified leisure interests both at the HERO Centre and in the community.
Our Place Social Club
A peer support-run club, open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, is a safe, comfortable place to socialize over a cup of coffee, play cards, shuffleboard and other games. Or participants can simply enjoy the fireside lounge. Peer Support Workers are available to share their experience, strength and hope in dealing with illness.
