FEWER AND KNOX CONCERT - INTIMATE BACH - SONATAS FOR VIOLIN & HARPSICHORD
Message from John French – Artistic Director, Brookside Music Association
I would like to personally invite you to attend the upcoming concert of Bach’s violin sonatas on September 24
th at St. Paul’s United Church. For me, this concert will be
a highlight of this year’s Brookside Music concert season and one that I have been looking forward to since booking it last winter!
J.S. Bach is widely regarded as possibly the greatest composer of all time who wrote music of exceptional depth and power representing the pinnacle of the Baroque style of composition. Last year we enjoyed the wonderful Tafelmusik presentation of
Bach and His World which included parts of the beloved Brandenburg concerti. The Sonatas for violin were written around the same time as the Brandenburgs and are considered among the greatest solo works for the instrument.
Bach’s son, C.P.E. Bach, wrote that these sonatas “are among the best works of my dear departed father…and give me much joy”.
The best works of the greatest composer! Great reasons you don’t want to miss this performance.
Another reason is the opportunity to hear the
internationally acclaimed artists, violinist Mark Fewer and harpsichordist Hank Knox. If you click on the following link you will hear them speak of their love of and experience in performing these
masterpieces of music.
Don’t miss the opportunity to hear this acclaimed duo perform these sonatas which have been called “miracles of music, where a single violin embarks on
some of the most remarkable musical discourses ever written”. I hope to see you there and don’t forget to tell your family and friends!
