I am forwarding the following request on behalf of my daughter, Brianne Spiker who is job hunting. Any help, leads, and shares on social media would be greatly appreciated. Brianne can be contacted through Facebook Messenger. Thanks very much everyone!
My name is Brianne Spiker and I am a recent graduate from the Ryerson School of Journalism. I have over five years of writing experience including time with the following sites: Simcoe.com, Last Word on Sports and The Hockey Writers. I covered NHL hockey extensively during that time which led me to profiling important events such as the NHLPA Rookie Showcase and the Hockey Hall of Fame induction weekend.
While much of my experience has been in sports journalism, I’m proficient in covering other beats such as hard news, health, arts & life and politics. Examples of that include covering food insecurity in Canada’s north, a profile on the Dalglish Family 22q clinic and covering a talk by media personality Ezra Levant that was met with protest from Ryerson students.
I can cover stories on print, digital and video platforms. As the sports editor at the Ryersonian, one of Ryerson’s campus student media outlets, I was responsible for that section which included assigning stories, creating content for all platforms and working closely with classmates. As an intern for six weeks at TSN.ca, I got the opportunity to copy edit articles from TSN’s various writers and columnists before they were published as well as write a tennis preview with my own byline.
I believe my skills are transferable to all areas of journalism and can be applied to communications and other related fields. I’m open to employment opportunities and any contacts and links would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
