March Mudness

March MUDness raises $39,351 for CT Scanner at GBGH!

Penetanguishene, ON – The Town of Penetanguishene hosted the first annual March MUDness event on Sunday, March 20th in Rotary Champlain Wendat Park. The event was created by Mayor Gerry Marshall as a fundraiser to support the Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation. The proceeds raised more than $40,000 in sponsorship and pledges and will be used to help the hospital purchase a new CT Scanner.

March MUDness is a 5km obstacle race through the waterfront park that had participants climbing over a mountain of snow and hay, going through tires and culverts and surviving belly crawls through mud. Participants were asked to generate pledges of $100 to participant and were encouraged to also do additional fundraising. The community support from the businesses was also evident as they provided sponsorship and contributed to the funding total.

“The event was awesome!” said Penetanguishene’s Mayor Marshall,” It was incredible to see so much community spirit and support around March MUDness. Our community rallied behind this fundraiser and had lots of fun doing it!” Over 170 participants ran the event putting a focus on fun and fundraising for the Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation.

“The GBGH Foundation sincerely thanks everyone that participated and supported the 1st annual March MUDness! The participation from our municipalities and all of the teams that worked so hard to get pledges to be part of this successful day was excellent!! We are definitely overwhelmed by the positive response to the event all in support of as new CT Scanner!” Jill St. Amant, Board Member, Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation.

The Mayor has committed to growing the event in 2017 and looks forward to enhancing the course and adding fun, new and challenging obstacles for the participants at next year’s March MUDness.

Thanks to everyone who participated and supported March MUDness 2016!
