He started his career with Grew Boats Ltd in Penetanguishene, where he spent over 12 years learning every aspect of the boat building industry. Following the closure of Grew Boats Ltd, Nelson continued with his trade and worked for several reputable, well-known boat repair shops throughout Southeast Georgian Bay, completing hundreds of major and minor fiberglass boat repairs ranging from $2K to  $50K.
