Dr Emily Queenan moved to Penetanguishene in August 2015 from Rochester, NY, USA where she had a thriving solo family medicine practice that provided full spectrum family medicine and maternity care from 2009 until 2014; she closed it in May 2014 when she decided that she could no longer endure the administrative burdens of the American insurance system. In the months that followed, she started to explore a move to Canada in order to practice within the country’s single-payer universal health insurance system. Dr Queenan is a board-certified family doctor with additional training and board certification in Integrative and Holistic Medicine. She completed her medical school at The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and then went on to complete a family medicine residency at the University of Rochester, where she also served as a chief resident in an additional fourth year of residency. She became a family doctor because in medical school at the University of Pennsylvania ,integrative holistic medicine (in particular nutritional medicine, mind-body techniques, and herbal remedies), and a person-centered holistic approach to patients and their health and disease (approaching patients as whole people, rather than merely a sum of their organ systems).
