Lafontaine Sand & Gravel Ltd

Welcome to Lafontaine Sand & Gravel Ltd.

Lafontaine Sand & Gravel Ltd. is a third generation family owned and operated company. Established in 1948 we have supplied and delivered to the Lafontaine and surrounding areas (Penetang, Midland, Tiny and Tay) for over 70 years. We have a large variety of raw, processed, and washed products to complete most residential and commercial projects.

Aggregate products we carry

Sandfill – Backfilling a foundation or bringing up the grade of a lot, Sandfill is what you need. More economical than gravel products, this screened product is gentle on concrete, buried pipes and cables while providing an easy to grade, well-drained surface.

Concrete Sand – A nice sharp sand that finishes well and provides the strength required for durable concrete mixes.

Mortar Sand – Mortar Sand is a fine sand used in all masonry applications. Laying brick or stone, use Mortar Sand with your favourite masonry cement to provide nice tight mortar that is easy on the wrists and spreads like icing on a cake! This is also the best material to use as sandbox sand and beach sand.

Septic Sand – For superior septic beds, our septic sand, also known as Whitby Sand, has been used to construct thousands of quality beds. It also meets specifications for aerobic beds and Enviro-Septic and Eljen systems.

Clay – If you'd like to grow grass but the yard is primarily beach sand, spreading a layer of clay before the spreading of topsoil is ideal. Clay has excellent water holding capabilities and can be very fertile. You won't have to water as much.

Granular “A” (20-0mm) – Usually referred as ‘A’ Gravel, if you are topping up a driveway/parking lot, Granular “A” is the way to go. It is made up of ¾" stone down to a fine sand and everything in between. This allows it to pack down tight for a resilient surface.

Granular “B” (50-0mm) – Usually referred as “B” Gravel, if you are building a new road/parking lot or a building pad, Granular “B’ is normally spread on the native soil after all topsoil/organic material has been removed. Usually a good road will have 12” of Granular “B” topped with 8” of Granular “A”. Granular “B” is mixed with 2” Stone down to a fine sand.

Concrete Gravel – The ideal concrete mix, just add cement and water. A concrete sand and 3/4" minus aggregate mix for footings and slabs. Use a ratio 4 Ideal Mix to 1  Portland for a comparable 2500psi strength concrete.

3/4” Crushed Stone (20mm) – 3/4" Crushed Stone is a washed product and is used for drainage in trenches and around foundations and weeping tile. It is also an excellent choice for use in concrete mixes for non-exposed concrete applications.

1" - 2" Septic Stone (50mm-25mm) – 1" - 2" Crushed Stone, used mainly for septic system drainage, has been screened and washed to remove fines. People installing septic systems must use this stone or else the inspector will not pass the system.

3/8" Round Stone (10mm) – 3/8" Round Stone, also known as Pea Stone, is used in many applications, drainage under patio slabs, as a roofing stone, decorative look around the yard, and even as a soft place to land in playgrounds.

Limestone Screenings (7-0mm) – Also known as Crusher Dust, used primarily for trails, pathways, driveways and ground cover applications, as well as a base for patio stone. compact so well, it is the superior material to use instead of sand under your paver, brick, and stone projects.

Limestone 3/4" Crusher Run (20-0mm) – Limestone Crusher Run allows for a more solid and durable surface that will resist erosion, allowing a slightly thinner profile to accomplish the same job.
