Used to be, for example, that farmers followed the latter , as they left fields to stay "fallow" i. e. without crops for one year in seven. And the rest of the time, rotated a different crop each growing season. Now , the way understand it, plants need only 3 minerals to nourish, and consequently all of the commercial fertilizers are limited to those.
Mammals like us, however , need around 60 nutrients of all sorts to thrive, including minerals. Commercial growers restrict their expense to the 3 essentials, but we get short changed! If only they had grown the veggies with more nutrients, they would have been passed right along to us!
To verify that, all you have to do is taste a carrot today and compare with memories of days of old, or say an organically grown one, fertilized with manure, yes manure!
