To demonstrate the profitability of these systems lets look at a 2.3Kw and a 10Kw system. (Horizontal mounted, remember, south sloped roof increases performance by up to15%)
2.3 kW X 1150 X 80.2 cents = $2121.29 per year
$2121.29 X 20 years = $42425.80
$19,000 investment / $2212.29 = 8.9 year payback
10Kw X 1150 X 80.2 cents = $9223.00 per year
$9223 X 20 years = $184460.00
$72,000 investment / $9223.00 = 7.8 year payback
These calculations are based on FLAT mounted panels. Installing the panels on a south faced sloped roof, (35° +/-) will increase yearly production, shortening the payback period, and increasing total income by up to 15%. Solar tracking devices will increase production up to 45%.
Panels may be installed on a roof, on poles, or on the ground. All you need is a location on your property where the sun always shines, and you too can finally get hydro to pay you.
