Derrick and his crew replaced the roof on our cottage, bunkie and carport this spring. Derrick is very meticulous in his work . He likes things done as if he was working on his own property which I really appreciated. He made a few suggestions for additional repairs which made sense and was not pushy about upselling. Workmanship, cleanup, and waste removal excellent. We even teed up some additional non- roofing jobs for the future. Bottom line is “ you get what you pay for”. I have no hesitation in recommending DM construction.

We hired Derrick to help us “spruce up” a (very) old cottage. As the project went on, Derrick was great about identifying where there might be issues (and he was always right) and flagging where it would impact our budget. We were very thankful that we had hired someone as capable as him when the cottage basically fell down around him and required a rebuild. Having hired various builders over the years (yes ... we're THAT old) we were a bit nervous ... ok ... a LOT nervous, about handing over a "family cottage" project to DM Construction. Every building project has it's bumps along the way, and this one would be no different. Our goal was to salvage a 100 year old cottage (shame on us), which soon turned into a complete re-build. The old structure just couldn't be saved, as Derrick, Jamie & the crew would prove at various stages of the build. Roof had a leak and was due for new shingles in general. Derrick was highly recommended and I'm very glad we went with him. The job was done beautifully and the right way. No cutting corners with DM Construction. If you want a job done right the first time this is the company you choose.
We were looking for a local constructor and after some tries, we have found Derrick. He is really reliable and works a lot to get all things together, despite we have not paid him a dime until now. Derrick just installed new shingles on our roof...we are extremely happy with the quality of the finished product. Derrick and his crew were very professional, and courteous. During the estimate phase Derrick made some great recommendations on the type of shingles, metal valleys and venting to be used. During the job he took great care in prepping the roof for the new shingles making sure all plywood was in good condition and well nailed down. They also did a great job in cleaning up afterwards...left the place spotless. We would definitely use Derrick for other future projects.

We hired Derrick to renovate our kitchen and mudroom this winter and it was the best decision we made for our home! We knew that this was going to be a challenge because our home is quite old and we have high expectations in both construction and design. From the beginning, Derrick was very patient and attentive, listened to our concerns and ideas, and shared his honest input prior to presenting us his estimate. Throughout the entire project, which last approximately 2 months, his work ethic was bar none. He always presented on time and stayed as long as he needed to in order to finish his set list for the day, which sometimes meant even coming on weekends so he could stay on track with his deadlines. He is extremely organized, obsessively attentive to every detail, and an exceptional craftsman. Each day, the construction area was always left neat and tidy so that our living space remained unaffected, which was very thoughtful. No matter the size of the dilemma, he always approached us first before proceeding so that we were always informed of changes to our plans, which we understood ahead of time given the condition of our space. In certain cases, he was also quite innovative in solving some of our unexpected problems, which ultimately saved us money. He treated our home as if it was his own, and that's all that we could ask for in a contractor. But above that, he was also very professional, knowledgeable, dependable and a trustworthy contractor who truly cared about delivering the best possible result for us. And that end result was a beautiful kitchen and extended mudroom space that featured quality finishes: from the arch entryways and the complicated stone floor tiling and backsplash, to all the cabinetry detail, trim and crown moulding effects, just to name a few, that we are proud to enjoy for many years to come. The best part is that we know all these details are supported by a structurally sound framework thanks to Derrick, which is peace of mind for us as home owners. In the early spring of 2016 I contacted Tim Greenwood, of Spaceage Insulation to review a mould issue that I have had for the last 28 years in my house. I had done everything possible. Tim looked it all over and suggesgeted the final solution would be to replace the roof, and while the roof was off he would use foam insulation around the total circumference of the roof. I agreed that I would do this, but only if he could recommend someone who he could work with, that would do a job to perfection, as I was tired of "being screwed" by contractors who come to do a job, and because I am a woman, do a less then perfect job. When the time arrive, in late spring, Derrick arrived to measure the roof and give me an estimate. I said, since Tim recommended you, because he felt you were a perfectionist, you would meet my standard. Indeed he did, and went beyond. He constantly invited me up to the roof to note different areas of concern and how he would fix them. He even offered me a job with his roofers ( right I am terrified of heights). I have two sons in wheelchairs, and they were out side to watch this process, and Derrick and all him crew, answered Alex's constant repetitation of the same questions with good humour and respect. I can't say enough about the great job that was done. Derrick totally cleaned out all the eavestrough to ensure no problem with runoff. The last group of roofers did not do this. He gave me a day by day report and worked to have the job done done in a timely fashion. He worked along with Tim's schedule so that the foam insulation could be installed in the whole structure. We discussed the relocation, size and style of the new roof vents. He addressed all issues that we had been having and corrected a roof vent that was causing extreme leakage in a bedroom. He meticulously trimmed all the edges of the roof. He used upgraded roofing material that has a longer warranty on it. The yard was cleaned up and neater when his crew was done, then when he started, because I hadn't got to my spring clean up yet. He even came back and finished an eaves trough job, that another contracting (yet again screwed) failed to finish. In spite of his objections to my choice of a old wheel rim to hold my garden hose, he reinstalled this back onto the back deck for me. He was at all times very conscious and courteous. I greatly appreciated his scarcastic humour. He even came back a further time in spite of his full schedule, and reinstalled evestrough on my shed so I could collect extra rain water. He also installed a rain barrel for me as well. Glory be to God, I am happy to report the roof has not leaked, and the mould job that has plagued us for 28 years, every winter alone the ceilings in 4 room has been totally eliminated. I would not hesitate to have Derrick back to do further work for me. In fact I will if he has not been totally booked up for 2017!
This past summer/fall Derrick and his associates built our 24ft x 36ft garage with a loft for storage. Derrick's attention to detail from the footings to the shingles is impressive. Derrick always kept us informed of any problems with anything from supplies, drawings, even weather, he consulted us on any changes that he thought were necessary, our opinion was important. Derrick is honest, trustworthy and respectful of your property. Derrick and his crew always cleaned up before they left and always asked if it was okay to leave equipment on site for an on-going task. The finished garage is well built and we have received positive comments from everyone that has seen it. We would highly recommend D.M. Construction for your next project.

Derrick and his team completed a deck restoration for me at the beginning of July. They worked nonstop through intense heat to complete my deck in a tight timeline and did a super job.
One of his strengths and something I really appreciated was his consistent communication about the job with me. As he removed the old deck boards he let me know of imperfections in the framing and definitely let me make the decisions as to what I wanted him to replace. As it turned out most of the frame was rotted and they had to almost begin from scratch. He always kept me informed as to extra costs and tried to suggest economical ways to complete the job. He was very conscientious about making sure there were no surprises when things effected the budget.
We had a deadline when we needed the job completed and Derrick worked himself on Saturday and Sunday to complete it on time. He paid attention to small details that make a big difference. I am thrilled with the results. The steps in particular are a masterpiece.
Another strength I feel Derrick showed was that he and the crew left the work site immaculate, they went over the lawn with a magnet to check for wayward nails and screws. A leaf blower ensured that no saw dust or other unwanted materials were left on the walkway. Derrick also went out of his way to do little things , like installing a new light on the house to illuminate the deck,that made a difference in the appearance of the deck.

Derrick and his crew have completed a number of renovations to our home over the past few years. He had renovated two complete bathrooms, our master bedroom, a retaining wall and stairway at our rental property and more recently repairing venting issues in our roof which included replacing our soffits and faca, installing new vents, replacing insulation in our attic and spraying foam insulation to repair damaged areas around our Bay window. We are so impressed with DM Constructions' work on this project. We have had no issues with leakage this winter at all! As well...no ice build up! We have just completed a full renovation of our seasonal cottage and have experienced many contractors during the process. When we met with Derrick to discuss our 2nd floor deck replacement project he was busy with several other projects. Despite his schedule the quote was delivered when he said it would be. Together with Derrick we arranged a start date and timeline that worked for both of us. The project not only started on time, but was completed on time – and the overall cost was as expected. Most importantly the quality of the work was simply outstanding – better than we could have hoped for. From the initial design and choice of materials, through the construction and clean-up, Derrick’s work was extremely professional; he has an outstanding attention to detail.
