Welcome to the Team… and Holiday Safety Tips

Focusing on our customers’ needs has always been the driving force behind Triple Tech. With that said, we would like to welcome Mike Condren to our Electrical Division here at Triple Tech.

Mike Condren is a Master Electrician who has been involved in the electrical industry for over 35 years. He was born and raised in Penetanguishene and has been a member of the community all of his life. Mike studied architectural technology in Toronto but fell in love with the trades. Mike began his apprenticeship while still in Toronto until he moved back to the area to begin an apprenticeship with Wismers Electric. In 1985 he started his own business, Miken Electric, partnering with his apprentice at the time.

Now, after working 20 years in automation, Mike recently decided to return to his true calling as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician. He is grateful to have the opportunity to continue serving the community as a Master Electrician at Triple Tech. He loves being involved in a variety of jobs, working with his hands and helping customers with all their electrical needs. Mike is thorough and meticulous, taking great pride in his trade.

Holiday Safety Tips

With winter slowly creeping up on us, people are beginning to decorate their homes for the holidays. But, before you begin to decorate your home it is a good idea to make sure that your home’s electrical system and wiring are safe for the new load that will be placed on your electrical system. Whether it’s a simple string of lights or you’re planning to go full Griswold, Triple Tech is here to make sure you do it safely. Here are some helpful tips to follow to keep your family and home safe during the holidays.

  • When checking your lights, plug each string of lights in individually to make sure they work, replacing any broken or burnt-out bulbs
  • Check the light strings for any cut, knicked or exposed wires.
  • Only use lights and decorations rated for outdoor use Make sure that your extension cords are up to code and also rated for outdoor use. Be sure to keep the connections above ground, snow and water.
  • Use modern lights, while grandma’s old-style lights may look pretty, they can also be a fire hazard.
  • When attaching lights to the house or trees, use insulated holders and not tacks or nails.
  • Never install lights on a tree that comes into contact with powerlines
  • While they are designed to connect, you should never plug more than three light strings together.
  • As well, the plug that you will be using should be a grounded fault circuit interrupter or GFCI. This will shut down if there is an overcurrent. If you need a GFCI installed, the Electrical Division at Triple Tech can help!
  • When stringing lights higher up, you want to use a good sturdy ladder and make sure it is grounded on a solid flat surface Work with a partner who can offer assistance and stability when needed. If the slant of your roof is too steep, you may want to hire an insured professional.
  • And finally, before you flip the switch to light up all your hard work, you will need to check your breaker box. The last thing you want to do is overload the system. If you are using decorative inflatables along with your light display, be sure to read the enclosed manual to see what kind of power draw they will need.

If you have electrical questions or concerns, holiday-related or not, Triple Tech is here to help! Give us a call today to book your appointment with our Electrical Department at 705-333-8324. Our staff and technicians are continuing to follow all COVID-19 protocols and best practices for our safety and yours.
