Summer is here in full force, and with the temperatures to prove it! If you’re dripping with sweat from a day in the sun, only to come home and find that it’s somehow even hotter inside, perhaps it’s time to finally get some nice, cool air going through the house. The big question is: What type of air conditioning is right for me?

Triple Tech is going to take a look at three different options to help you make the right decision for keeping you cool through the summer.

Window Air Conditioner

The window a/c unit is the tried and true method for apartments and small houses. These popular little guys sit snugly in the window, sending all the hot air in the room outside and exchanging it for cold air. A small unit can often cool anywhere from 100-350 square feet, and strategic planning can even cool more than one room. While handy, the window units certainly do pose a few risks. Installing a window A/C unit involves decreasing the security of your home, as it takes up the spot of your window and can easily be removed. You also want to be sure that the dripping water of the units isn’t going to be a nuisance to those walking or living underneath. Also, not all windows are able to support an air conditioner, so be sure to check with us first!

Portable Air Conditioner

Portable A/C units don’t take up a whole window pane but still require some space to run th exhaust line outside. Portable units are far easier to move around the house as needed however, they are far less energy efficient than window units. The fact that the whole unit and all the working parts are sitting right there inside the house means that portable units can get far louder than window-mounted units. These portable units are ideal for those living in apartments or condos with strict rules on installing anything to the exterior of your home, like a window unit. They’re also a great alternative if your windows are incapable of holding a window unit, or if they’re just too high to be effective.

Central Air

Ah, central air, the “Holy Grail” when it comes to summertime. Everyone loves walking in the front door and feeling that cool, refreshing air while walking to the kitchen, upstairs, the bathroom, anywhere in the house. But,cooling each and every room in your house can lead to high energy bills and quickly. The benefits of clean, filtered air throughout your home is a large draw for many people but central air does require ductwork, which some older homes and cottages do not have.
