The STRAWBS return to the MCC on Wednesday, October 17th for their final electric tour.  Strawbs album, Hero & Heroine, has been listed by Rolling Stone magazine as “one of the 50 greatest prog rock albums of all time”. It is the band’s biggest seller worldwide and was certified gold in North America.  In the USA Strawbs had seven consecutive albums in the Billboard Top 200.

The Strawbs are as busy as ever and have no plans on sailing off into the sunset.  This year, the band will mount their final full electric tour of Canada.  The line-up will include original members Dave Cousins, Dave Lambert, Chas Cronk and Tony Fernandez, all of whom recorded on the classic Strawbs albums of the 1970s.  Rounding out the lineup will be keyboardist Dave Bainbridge of the band, Iona.

Halloween doesn’t get any better than this! Dress up and come on out on October 26th for A Halloween Rock N’ Roll Dance Party with PAUL JAMES. Paul James is one of the most exciting and energetic Toronto-based Canadian musicians past, present and future. He has received many music awards during his long career in the music business. He is winner of a Juno Award, multiple Toronto Music Awards, The Maple Blues (Lifetime Achievement Award for Blues Music in Canada), the London Fire Hall Lifetime Achievement Award, and he has many more music awards to grace his mantle. However, winning the respect of his musical peers always rated more highly than winning any awards for Paul.

Paul was a Canadian Blues Crusader! He played the Blues in bars since 1968 when it was not nearly as popular as it is now and long before there were any ‘Blues Societies’ or ‘Blues Awards in Canada.’ Paul James kept the Blues flame burning in Toronto even through the late 1970s when the disco era caused so many live bands to give up.

On Saturday, October 27th the much anticipated SURVIVORMAN LES STROUD performs at the MCC. Les Stroud has made a powerful name in the world of documentary film making, indeed starting an entirely new genre of TV, yet he comes by his music honestly. Since the age of fourteen Stroud has been writing songs and studying musically. By age 23 his music was being shopped to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and he was a published songwriter with RCA/BMG music. Taking a break from music to concentrate on outdoor adventure throughout the mid 80’s and early 90’s Stroud eventually returned to his first love when he found an old guitar in a house in Yellowknife, NWT in Canada, while he was dog sitting 30 Inuit sled dogs (go figure!). He re-ignited his passion for music creation and picking up where he left off began writing again. He continued to write and record all through the inception and eventual success of filming the Survivorman TV series, which included writing the theme music for any documentary work he produced and releasing 4 CDs as well as performing hundreds of concerts (in between the Survivorman location shoots).
