WHAT'S ON AT THE MCC IN JUNE

Carla here from the MCC!  What an exciting few months we have coming up!  Lots of shows throughout the summer for you and your family and friends to enjoy.

Join us for A DAY IN THE LIFE WITH CAPTAIN ROBBIE HINDLE on June 6th. Captain Robbie Hindle grew up in Midland, playing sports and attending high school locally. He was attracted to a career in the military and received his Navigators wings. He did training and service in Winnipeg, Ottawa, and San Antonio TX, and travelled throughout North America supporting Canadian Air Force and Navy units in their training. He got the aviation bug and worked toward a private pilot’s licence. He completed his pilot training and applied for and was eventually accepted into RCAF flying training . He moved to Moose Jaw, received his pilot wings, was invited to teach at flight school, and eventually moved into an operating position and began conducting flight tests. He then received a call from a former instructor asking if he’d like to become a Snowbird. So, earlier this year, after 1700 hours of military flying experience, Captain Hindle joined the Snowbirds and flies as Snowbird 11 in the Advance and Safety Pilot position.

On June 10th, legendary guitarist ALBERT LEE takes the stage at the MCC.  Albert Lee is one of the most respected and renowned guitarists in music history, having worked with The Everly Brothers, Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris and The Cricketts over his long and illustrious career. The British-born country-rock artist started his career during the emerging rock 'n' roll scene of sixties London, when he swapped bands with the likes of Jimmy Page and Chris Farlowe.  Don’t miss this incredible musician!

June 13th Ontario’s Environmental Commissioner DIANE SAXE joins us on A DAY IN THE LIFE.  Dr. Dianne Saxe is the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario (ECO), a tough but fair watchdog over Ontario’s environmental, energy and climate performance, and guardian of the Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR). Prior to her appointment in December 2015, Commissioner Saxe was one of Canada’s most respected environmental lawyers. Commissioner Saxe was recognized as one of the world’s top 25 environmental lawyers. Some of her numerous tributes and honours include the Award for Distinguished Service, the highest honour granted by the Ontario Bar Association; and the Gold Key Award for exceptional lifetime professional achievement, granted by Osgoode Hall Law School Alumni. Commissioner Saxe has travelled extensively in Ontario and Canada, both in her professional practice and as a keen canoeist, kayaker and cross-country skier. She is the daughter of Canadian politician Morton Shulman and the mother of neuroscientist Rebecca Saxe.

WWTL Productions presents WE WALK THE LINE – A JOHNNY CASH TRIBUTE on June 16th. We Walk The Line is a true Johnny Cash experience that celebrates the music and lives of "The Man in Black" and his fun loving wife, June Carter. The performance features Ward Cornforth as a 1960's era Johnny Cash with the signature "Boom-Chicka-Boom" sound of his long time touring band the Tennessee Three. The show includes duets performed by Johnny Cash with the late "June Carter".  The concert covers the entire career of Johnny Cash from the 1950's at Sun Records to 2003 with the American Recordings label and includes Johnny's biggest hits 'Ring of Fire', 'Boy Named Sue', 'I Walk The Line', 'Folsom Prison Blues', 'Hurt' and the famous duet with June Carter 'Jackson' amongst other classic songs.

Join us June 22nd – 24th for our first Annual GOSPEL MUSIC FESTIVAL.  Our weekend pass will allow you to see all 3 shows throughout the weekend.  On June 22nd THE BAND OF CHRISTIANS featuring TITUS CHAPMAN returns to the MCC.  This was a sold out performance last year and had audience members in awe. Don’t miss the best of black gospel music!  On June 23rd JACOB MOON & THE COMMISSIONAIRES also return to the MCC.  The Commissionaires are a new soul-roots-gospel outfit formed by indie singer-songwriter Jacob Moon and Newworldson's Joel Parisien.  And on June 24th we will wrap up the festival with a fundraiser variety show hosted by the CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH CHOIR.  The Midland based choir will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City later this year as part of a mass choir of 250-plus singers.  The Sunday event will help raise money to help cover the cost of the trip.
