WHAT'S ON AT THE MCC - APRIL

Carla here from the MCC!  Spring has sprung and with that a great line up of spring concerts.  It’s time to get out of hibernation and come out and enjoy some fantastic shows at the Midland Cultural Centre.

Join us on Tuesday, April 3rd for the next series in the OUR HEALTH program eyeCARE. Listen to our three experts, Dr. Daniel Laurin, an Optometrist, Dr. Daniel Scanlan, an Ophthalmologist, and Fran Moreau, who is partially sighted, discuss aspects related to vision, focusing on screening and three long-term eye problems – diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration.  Participants will review current and best treatment options including medications, eye injections and surgery. Attendees will learn who they should contact for eye care, about OHIP coverage for assessment and treatment, and how to live independently when sight decreases.  This is a free event with registration.

Tiffin Bay Folk Club presents 5 GUYS WITH GUITARS on April 5th.  This is a launch concert for the new acoustic open mic series which will be hosted by Kevin Firth.  5 Guys with Guitars will feature Kevin Firth, Jakob Pearce, Glenn Erwin, Jeff Shawcross and Jeremiah Hill.  This is some great local talent that cannot be missed.

On April 14th we will have our last show in the FAMILY SCENE AT THE MCC season, MEMORABLE MUNSCH. Four of Robert Munsch's classic stories retold in a zany show where the actors use their bodies and your imagination to create the whole world. Featuring Put Me In A Book, Alligator Baby, Just One Goal and Andrew's Loose Tooth.  Robert Munsch's books are strung together and played out in the style of live improv shows and comedy troupes, with high-energy physical humour and animated acting, using the audience’s help along the way.

Canadian folk singer-songwriter LAURA SMITH returns to the MCC on April 15th. Best known for her 1995 single "Shade of Your Love", one of the year's biggest hits on adult contemporary radio stations in Canada, and for her adaptation of the Scottish folk song "My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean" which she entitled "My Bonny". She recorded a version of this with The Chieftains, which they erroneously listed as "My Bonnie" on their album Fire in the Kitchen. In December 2010, that version received a nod for Song of the Decade from Bill Margeson at LiveIreland.

Join host Fred Hacker on April 25th for A DAY IN THE LIFE with DAN NEEDLES. Dan Needles is funny guy who will make you laugh about the interface between the old rural community and the modern world. He is best known as the playwright behind the popular Wingfield Farm Series which has played across Canada. It was performed at the Stratford Festival and aired on CBC. He has written numerous books and plays and was the recipient of the 2003 Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour. Dan was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada by David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, for "celebrating our rural communities as the playwright of the much-loved Wingfield Farm series, and for championing the dramatic arts outside of Canada’s major centres." Dan now lives on a farm, writes books and plays and speaks at conferences and banquets. Join us for an evening of humour, conversation, insight and fun!
