On February 3rd fan favourite JACK DE KEYZER returns to the MCC with his brand new release Checkmate. This new album is a tribute to the great Chess Records, Chicago blues giants, featuring songs by Howling Wolf, Elmore James, Otis Rush, Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon and Albert King. Jack’s second set will feature original award winning songs from the 2017 release “Best of Jack de Keyzer”. Don’t miss Canada’s King of the Blues!
THE ARROGANT WORMS take the stage at the MCC on February 10th. Over a quarter century after they began, The Arrogant Worms continue to provide tuneful and silly escapism for everyone who needs it. They have sold more than 160,000 copies of their 14 albums. The band has played on three continents to crowds as large as 100,000 and were recognized in 2003 as the Touring Act of the Year by the Canadian Arts Presenters Association. The Worms have entertained at corporate functions, sung anthems at sporting events and emceed at major festivals. Their songs are in school lesson plans, in textbooks and even played on the Space Shuttle. On earth or in space, everyone digs these Worms!
Local, award-winning comedy troupe GOOD MORNING APOCALYPSE is back with DINNER AND A SHOW on February 14th featuring their brand-new adult-themed Valentine’s Day comedy revue: BAD DATES! From blind-dating Debra, who has to face the peculiar challenge of breaking up with a mime, to a harrowing date gone wrong at Count Chocula’s castle, to the unwelcome ghostly visitors to a romantic Patrick Swayze-themed date, they celebrate all the ways that Cupid’s arrow can miss the mark. And this is one show that will leave you feeling a little more love in your heart, since a portion of ticket sales will go to Operation Grow, a new project developed by Huronia Transition Homes. So grab your sweet little heartbreaker and come on out... ‘cause the only ones having a good date will be the audience!
On February 18th the MCC presents CALL MR. ROBESON: A LIFE WITH SONGS. Paul Robeson is a world-famous actor, singer and civil rights campaigner. When he gets too radical and outspoken for the establishment's liking, he is branded a traitor to his country, is harassed, and denied opportunities to perform or travel. This roller-coaster journey through Robeson’s remarkable life highlights how his pioneering and heroic political activism led many to describe him as the forerunner of the civil rights movement. It features some famous songs (including a dramatic rendition of Ol’ Man River), speeches, and a spectacularly defiant testimony to the Senate House Un-American Activities Committee.
