On January 17th, Canadian sports icon ROD BLACK joins host Fred Hacker for A DAY IN THE LIFE.  Rod is a sports announcer for TSN and CTV Sports. He has been involved in play-by-play and colour commentary for a wide variety of sports including football (both CFL and university), hockey (the NHL on TSN), baseball (Toronto Blue Jays), basketball (Toronto Raptors), golf tournaments, bowling tournaments, curling, boxing and figure skating. He has anchored the coverage by CTV of the 1991 Canada Cup (hockey), the 1992 Summer Olympics, the 1994 Winter Olympics, and the 2010 Winter Olympics. He has won numerous awards for outstanding sports broadcasting. Rod Black has covered some of the most exciting and memorable events in Canadian sports history. Get your tickets today and relive some of those moments of Rod’s fascinating career.

SUGAR AND GOLD: STORIES OF THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD makes it’s world premiere at the MCC on January 27th.  This new dynamic musical features fascinating and riveting stories of the Underground Railroad written by Diana Braithwaite, a direct descendant of the first fugitives who arrived in Canada from America. Rare photographs and unique images provide a rich historical backdrop to the production while a colourful enchanting musical score with original songs written by Braithwaite and partner award winning composer Chris Whiteley, embellish the story with an uplifting musical soundscape.  Sugar And Gold: Stories of the Underground Railroad begins with the sugar and gold trade in the 1600’s and weaves this captivating remarkable story through the centuries.

OUR HEALTH returns on January 30th with it’s 11th program in the series, INTERVENTION – A LOOK AT THE REALITY OF ADDICTIONS. Addictions will be a challenging and thought provoking topic when three panelists take “a look at the reality of addictions”. Jack Vandenberg, the manager for addiction services in Simcoe County, has played a major role in education, assessment and withdrawal management for over 40 years. Tina Brand-Lawson is a compassionate and caring frontline addiction counsellor in Midland. Andrew Hurst, a recovering addict and alcoholic, has experienced firsthand the devastating effects of addiction. He has been clean and sober for three years. Dr. Keith Rose will moderate the discussion and questions from the audience.  Admission is FREE for this event with registration thanks to our sponsors.

Also in January, MIDLAND JAMS returns on January 8th.  Musicians and music lovers are all welcome to this FREE event.  Come out and jam with your band or just be part of the audience and enjoy some local talent.  There is a new house band to kick off the evening each week.  For more info check out the Midland Jams Facebook page here.

We will also be featuring the piano stylings and vocals of CAROL HOLMES at THE PIANO BAR Thursday and Friday evenings in January.  Come by for a happy hour drink and unwind from 5:00pm – 8:00pm in the Cafe Roxy Atrium starting January 11th.
