Canada has few national heroes; few iconic individuals who are revered by all. Terry Fox is one.He is a national treasure. Everyone who was alive in 1980 can picture the image of him running a marathon a day despite the amputation of a leg lost to cancer. You read it right: an average of one marathon (26 miles; 42.195 km) every day. He selflessly set out to run from coast to coast to raise funds for cancer research. Every school kid knows and relate to Terry.He didn’t finish his Marathon of Hope. But his gallant effort did reach his financial target. He raised $1 for every Canadian then alive (more than $24,000,000) for cancer research. In the years since his death, the Run commemorating him has raised $750,000,000.The Terry Fox story is well known to all of us.Next Tuesday, we’re going to meet Terry in a new light, through the eyes of his older brother Fred. Fred Fox is 14 months older than Terry. They grew up together. Now Fred works for the Foundation that bears his brother’s name.
“A Day in the Life of Fred Fox” will explore the life of Fred as it impacted and was impacted by the life of Terry.
