HOME SWEET HOME FOR HURONIA PLAYERS
Home sweet home for Huronia Players
The night of May 24th, 2012 marked the official opening of the
Huronia Players' new home at the
Midland Cultural Centre. The evening featured a ceremonial ribbon cutting by both past and present members of the theatre group before the inaugural performance of their latest production '
Our Town'.
The community theatre group moved to its new stage at the beginning of May from their old Studio Theatre on William Street. The move coincides with Huronia Players’ 50th anniversary and greatly improves the group's ability to put on larger performances. 'Our Town' featured 38 cast members onstage plus an equal number behind the scenes, which would not have been possible at their old location. The audiences will also enjoy the comforts of the new venue with plush seating, spacious aisles and a theatre that is at least four times as large as the old one.

Gala Evening at Midland Cultural Centre
The
Huronia Foundation for the Arts (HFA) and the Board of the
Midland Cultural Centre will celebrate the opening of the new cultural centre with a black tie “Art á la Carte” Gala on Saturday, June 9th, 2012.
This special event will have a full evening of dining and entertainment. The First Nations drumming will greet gala patrons as they enter the new state-of-the-art facility. A cocktail reception commences at 5:30pm, where guests will delight in the violin music of the Lefaive sisters. Showcasing and celebrating “Youth in the Arts” is an important part of the vision for the Huronia Foundation for the Arts.
At 7:00pm guests will be called into the Rotary Hall by the Town Crier and a Highland Piper for dinner and the evening program. Dinner features a four-course meal followed by a recital with Midland pianist John French, and dance music by Louis and the Kings of Swing from 9:00pm untill midnight.
One-of-a-kind birdhouses designed by HFA members, a popular element of the gala last year, as well as unique art and quality items, will be featured at the silent auction, ongoing throughout the evening.
Décor for the gala has been donated by James Crouch from Splash Events.
Master of Ceremonies will be Ryan McLeod from Larche Communications, evening and weekend announcer on
The Dock FM 104.1 radio station.
Tickets cost $130 per person and can be purchased through
TicketBreak.
Once all the tickets are sold for the full program event, mezzanine tickets will be available at $40 per person, for entry to the Rotary Hall after 9:00pm for dancing.
