We are a groundswell movement created through the cooperation of a group of stakeholders in the Tourism business within the boundaries of Midland, Penetanguishene, Tay and Tiny Townships in the north part of Simcoe County and bordering on the southern edge of Georgian Bay.
Enabled through the newly formed Economic Development Corporation of North Simcoe - an organization created by the four municipalities - a committee was formed to research the history of marketing and promotional efforts and the branding of the region. What developed was a comprehensive plan to re-brand the region and create a grass roots tourism consortium to build the area into an organized, recognized well visited tourist destination in the heart of the Georgian Bay Region.
Why This is Necessary.
As time has passed over the last 10 years this area has watched as regional neighbours have defined their tourist offers, built recognition and reached out to the growing tourism market. This area, sticking to conservative values, has not. Still struggling with an identity in the term HURONIA, this beautiful part of the Province of Ontario has never progressed with a unified and planned approach to gaining recognition as a great resource for leisure time, a tremendous place to live and a good place to work or start a business.
The local established icons for tourism have become lost in offerings from neighbouring areas that have professional tourism offices, marketing advice and budgets to promote. Now is the time to change. For an area that has hosted societies for at least 10 centuries, saw the first European settlements in Ontario, and became the gateway for building Western Canada and ultimately Confederation, this place blessed with natural resources, fertile land sparkling waters and abounding activities is ready to take its place as the Heart of Georgian Bay.
