There is talk around that the town is replacing the
metered parking with ticket machines and canceling the 3 hour free parking and
weekend free parking. We have asked the town for clarification and can assure
all members that this has not passed through council. We received the following
statement from the town:
“There
has been no discussion by Council on the matter you identify. The recent report
we received from Urban Strategies made a number of recommendations on parking.
The Downtown Masterplan Steering Committee asked the consultants to
change the recommendations to indicate that parking had to be studied further
and these were only possibilities.
In
short there is currently no direction to change what we are doing with our
parking. That said we will be reviewing it in future to improve the downtown
situation. The BIA and the public will be included in that consultation.”
