OUR GREATEST SUPPORTERS
Dear Georgian Bay Snowrider,
To say it was a difficult year for the Georgian Bay Snowriders is putting it mildly (pun intended).
Due to many factors including covid, lack of volunteers and direction, our club was on the verge of folding this fall. Thanks to the efforts of our greatest supporters, disaster was avoided.
In early January, members stepped up in large numbers and a fresh board of directors was formed. As the lead hand, I am privileged to work with this diverse, energized group of volunteers.
The Weather
There is nobody that watches the snowfall closer than your club. We have jumped into action every opportunity this winter to provide open trails. We were fortunate to keep a good portion open throughout the March break.
Old Man winter you need to turn it up for 2024. Mother Nature look out!
For the Record
The club does not handle any monies other than their own fundraising money.
We currently receive a very restrictive budget to fund club small equipment, fuel, fencing, culverts, excavation, brushing and landowner management.
There are no permits or payment for land, all landowners graciously allow our use and without them what would we have?
The OFSC permit money does not fund groomer buildings/ clubhouses.
Fundraising Does
The club is starting to construction of a new groomer / clubhouse building on GBSR lands, C trail, Tay Township.
This will start next month, in May 2023 and will be built entirely by local contractors using in-kind donations of labour and our volunteers.
Zero labour costs.
$$$$ We need your cash donations to purchase the required material.
Our new home will also benefit the Orillia (ODSC) club and support their grooming operations, along with the district of 10 clubs access for meetings and training for volunteers as needed.
This new building, called the John Power Centre, is dedicated to our past president, John Power, whose Vision in 1967 founded the OFSC, now 55 years strong.
