It was recently announced that Rainbow Six: Siege would not have a campaign mode and would be multiplayer focused only. Does this benefit Rainbow Six: Siege or hurt the longevity of the game and possibly shorten the life span of the next highly anticipated Rainbow Six title? We've seen in the past that this style of game (multiplayer only) will only hurt the longevity of a game. Recent titles like Titanfall and Evolve, both good games just didn't carry on with it's community to survive long for most gamers to keep playing. Without any single-player campaign some gamer's feel intimidated when forced to start in a multiplayer game before getting use to the controls and mechanics of a game. With no way of easing some gamers into the game who would otherwise play the single-player only with the thought of possibly trying the multiplayer someday. Ubisoft neglects these type of gamers and therefore may lose sales because now those gamers will not even buy the game without it having a true single player experience.
Scott Mitchell, Rainbow Six: Siege art director told PCGamesN- "there is no story per se. You go through training, where you get to experience different operators and their devices. You can play against enemy in co-op through all the maps. You can customize matches, so that's what we're offering on the single-player side of things."
So will this hurt Rainbow Six: Siege? On the other hand, there are lots of gamers who will not even try the single-player in a Call of Duty game and will always jump straight into the multiplayer portion of the game. Is this how Ubisoft feels? Do they think they can capture that same audience or is Ubisoft going after the eSports audience and trying to break into that market?
