Absolutely brilliant! Thrown into the action as a younger and much less experienced King Graham, your journey to knight-hood begins. A much older King Graham tells the stories of his younger adventurers to his anxious granddaughter Gwendolyn. Voiced by Christopher Lloyd, Christopher starts to narrate Graham's adventure with the player taking control of his character. The narration and story is one of the best I've had the pleasure's of playing this year. Christopher Lloyd brings a great feel to the narration with a great sense of humor to every mishap.

Kings Quest reminds me a lot of Dragons Lair in some of the puzzle mechanic's, having you choose one path over the other and not necessarily taking the right path will end your sessions in an untimely hysterical manner. The sense of humor is a very large and important part of Kings Quest. Knowing there is always a punch line or a joke at your expense is all apart of the charm. With a great cast of characters there is always someone new and exciting to meet. Each new character feels believable, that they belong in this world and meeting more characters are going to be just as thrilling to meet and hear their stories.

I fell in love with the art direction right from the very beginning of the game. A bright and stunning world done in an old school Disney-isque manner is outstanding. Though some of the knights armor may look a little too over the top with it's shine, the art style brought me back to the good old days of Disney cartoons and I loved it. The days of classic point-and-click adventure games are definitely see a rise lately on consoles. Kings Quest takes some of the those mechanics and meshes them well together that should inspire others to follow this gameplay themselves in the future. Mixing up the gameplay feels intuitive with good level design and not overly challenging puzzles that would stop some players from wanting to continue the story further. There is a great balance of puzzle design that doesn't feel repetitive or old, and will test players to think further then what appears in front of them.

With classic game design brought into modern times, King's Quest chapter 1 is one of the best games I've played this year.

King's Quest is already in the running for game of the year. A fantastic voice cast that brings such a colourful world together with an inspirational art style all of it's own. King's Quest will have you laughing and smiling the whole way through. Well, through chapter 1 at least. With this being the first of 4 more chapters to come, Odd Gentlemen have a lot to live up to heading into chapter 2 and I can't wait for more!

One moment please...
Taking too long?
