It goes without saying that the PlayStation 4 has far exceeded anyone's expectations when it comes to sales numbers over the past year. It appears that the juggernaut is far from slowing down.  Sony announced today some rather staggering numbers that will only solidify that the gaming industry is only getting stronger.

Sony Computer Entertainment announced that the PlayStation 4 has cumulatively sold through (meaning, customers purchased) more than 18.5 million units worldwide as of January 4th and with retail sales exceeding 4.1 million units over this holiday season.

Sony's very own Andrew House, President and Group CEO of SCE Inc stated.

"We are absolutely delighted that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as their console of choice throughout this holiday season. We will continue to reinforce and deliver additional value on PS4 as the best place to play, by bringing even more exciting content and by enriching our wide array of service offerings."

 It's also worth noting that over 10.9 million users are taking advantage of PS Plus with all of the great offerings from discounts to free games each month. 2015 is finally here and there are exciting games in the future for PlayStation fans, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, The Order 1886, The Tomorrow Children, The Witness and the highly anticipated game from Hello Games, No Man's Sky are just to name a few that will be coming in the future.
