Set in a once colonized Excavation Site, The Swapper is an atmospherically haunting puzzle platforming game done right.
Curve Studio's originally released The Swapper for PC last year and recently brought this mystical game over to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita with cross-buy support. Set upon Chori V, an excavation site that was once colonized, however, is now mysteriously deserted. You start off by being transported from your escape pod into space, this is where your lonely adventure begins. Armed with only your wits and a flashlight to begin with, you set out to explore this creepy and haunting site.
The Swapper, with its dark tone and quiet sound track gives you a sense of loneliness, an eerie wonder of what happened? The art style reflects this mood, setting the game with its rich deep tones, you quickly become aware that something bad has happened and though you want to find these answers, you may not want to do this alone.
Early on is where you discover The Swapper device. This puzzle solving mechanic of swapping yourself amongst yourself will change your look at these platforming challenges. The puzzles will progressively become harder, challenging you to think outside the box to reach each Orb. Reaching these Orb's will unlock new and wonderful locations around the excavation site, all while slowly walking you through an intriguing story as you uncover the whereabouts of the excavation site's crew.
Whether you have a few minutes to kill or hours available, The Swapper can be tackled in bite size pieces with challenges only taking a few moments to more complex situations that will take a bit more thought. The Swapper fully supports the cloud saving aspect and is easily one of my favorite parts, allowing me to play on the PlayStation 4 and quickly upload my save file to the cloud and be on my way in moments continuing my experience with the PS Vita.
The idea of swapping your physical body into another to solve interesting puzzles is very enjoyable. With a simple game mechanic that makes you think outside the norm to achieve your goal and something I haven't seen before, I loved it. The story, though is present will not overwhelm you, but have you question your own personal thoughts of outer space. I would recommend The Swapper a great game that will have you playing for hours or can be tackled minutes at a time.
