Everyone’s favorite flying, pig destroying birds are making they’re way to the PlayStation Vita…and bringing the force with them.

Angry Birds Star Wars has made their way over from Apple and Android devices and onto the PlayStation platforms. With this release, the Vita has its own exclusive content.  By now everyone knows the premise of Angry Birds. The birds sit in a slingshot and once pulled back and released, they come crashing down destroying whichever structure the harmless pigs were on. The more you destroy with the least amount of birds used, the more points and better chance of getting a three star rating.

Angry Birds Star Wars tells a story through small cut scenes in the form of a comic book like narration. If you aren’t a fan of the Star Wars saga, but like Angry Birds the story won’t mean much to you. But fans of Star Wars will like the narrative little touch and will enjoy the small touches they have added to push a sense of the story on the game.

Visually, Angry Birds looks great on the Vita. Clean and stylishly colorful, each world looks much different than the last. Bright and beautiful colors fill each level, bringing its own style and puzzle fulfilling challenges. Each of the puzzles became an addiction as you score case with friends, or aim to be rewarded with 3 stars. Star Wars characters play the role of the birds as they’re flown from the slingshot, each having their own unique abilities. Whether you are slicing your way through boxes with your Light saber or using the Force to push your way through challenges, the Star Wars characters are a great addition to the Angry Birds franchise. There are 5 different worlds, as well as an exclusive world and bonus content to venture through and will help keep your addiction going.

What would a Star Wars game be without the help of the Millennium Falcon? Getting stuck on a puzzle is always inevitable, so call on the Millennium Falcon for help. The Falcon will replace one of the birds with a homing device and release it via the sling shot to have the Falcon fly itself through the level unlashing its lasers into the world with hopes of destroying most of the Pig Troopers, if not all of them.

Having the Vita version isn’t all that different than your typical handheld devices. Front touch acts as you would expect it to, while the rear touch or analog sticks and face buttons act as another option. I often found myself touching the rear touch pad only to fling my bird by mistake in front of my sling shot. If there would have been an option to turn that off, I would have done so. The analog stick option is a nice addition, but the sticks are very jumpy and not as easily handled as the front touch screen for more precise aiming. Though multiplayer was very fun, without the addition of Wi-fi your friends or family have to be in the same room as you, not allowing you to challenge them from outside the same room. The biggest setback is the price. Set at $39.99 for the Vita, PS3 and $49.99 for the PS4, does seem a bit steep when compared to the Apple or Android devices.

Multi-player is handled in two ways. You can either choose to play together via co-op, as you each swap the PS Vita back and forth taking your turn sending off your Jedi to fight the Pig Troopers. The other option is to battle against your friends as you also share the Vita amongst the four of you, each with the goal of ending the game with the most of points. The multiplayer is a blast and a ton of fun that will keep all of you coming back to battle each other for another round.

Angry Birds Star Wars is a great addition to your Vita library. It’s easy to quickly jump in and play a few levels or chill out and score chase trying to achieve the third star. Angry Birds should always be loaded on your Vita, whether you have it downloaded or on the card loaded ready to go.
