Sniper 2 Review

Sniper 2 Ghost Warrior puts you behind the scope of Cole Anderson, a highly trained professional sniper. Cole Anderson will traverse through dense jungles to open urban cities and the Mayan ruins in search for his targets. With the guidance of your spotter, the two of you will setup in high places and overlook your targets as your spotter calls out the shots. At first this seems fantastic as you and your partner go through the jungle hiding in bushes laying down to snipe your next victim as your spotter tells you who to take out next. This works great with the game and your AI partner works very well with helping you to establish your surroundings and your targets. However, after awhile it seems to hold your hand with telling you who to take out next instead of letting you make the wrong move and then fighting your way out of the situation you created for yourself. There will be missions where Cole will fight solo, but they seemed to be far and few between.

Sniper 2 does make you feel very powerful with eliminating targets at such distances. If done quietly and correctly, you end your last victim’s life with a kill cam. This could use a bit more tweaking. If you ever played Sniper Elite or have seen the kill cams done within that game, you know what I mean. A nice bone crushing slow motion kill done to perfection. Sniper 2 will go into a slow motion kill cam and just as your slow spinning bullet is about to eliminate your target it jumps out of the slow motion camera and leaves your target on the ground. It’s as though they forgot to finish off the animation.

As you would guess with this type of shooting game, there are three difficulty levels. The first two allow you to have a helping red dot to assist you in your line of sight, so you will know how much the bullet will drop over the distance and have the wind push the bullet from side to side. The third difficulty lets you figure things out for yourself. No red dot to assist you. You must judge the distance of your target to account for distance drop and wind trajectory. This is NOT easy as I found myself missing the odd head shot with the help of the assistance on and when my target moved his head slightly it would sometimes miss, having me fight my way out of the situation after a sloppy shot.

As lots of you will try to gather all the trophies for your platinum or 100% achievements. I played on the Playstation 3 for Sniper 2 as I do for most of my gaming. To get platinum or 100 percent is very possible. Story wise you will be able to do this quite easily, you may have to play through the game twice. As for the multiplayer, this is where the game really falls short. Sniper 2 multiplayer is one of the most disappointing aspects of the game. Great in concept, but with no variety it will leave you numb and heading off to play something else more satisfying. When I heard MP was going to be in Sniper 2 I couldn’t wait to play. To my amazement and shocking disbelief, I went in to play the MP and found there to be only one game mode and two maps. I have played my fair share of MP games in the past and never in my wildest dreams have I ever encountered such a disappointment in a MP game mode. They should eliminate the MP for Sniper 3 when it comes out on the next PS4 and Xbox 720.

Graphically, the game is very good and the story left me coming for more. I enjoyed myself with the witty writing and consistent banter over my ear piece. The only disappointment I had was the MP. Lack of game modes and the very limited MP maps will make it hard to gather all the trophies and achievements.
Sniper 3 has been announced for the PS4 and the next Xbox. At only $40 dollars, the SP experience is one most will enjoy and I can highly recommend.

One moment please...
Taking too long?
