Playstation All Stars is a battle of legends, a battle of Playstation’s iconic hero’s. Some of our beloved heroes you would expect to see in such Playstation fanboy/girl type games while others you wouldn’t expect to see at all like Toro or Sr. Daniels.

PS All Stars is not your traditional fighting game, where you typically watch your health meter deplete in most fighting games. PS All Stars takes this idea in a different direction in the way of you wanting to watch your meter increase as fast as it possibly can. Once your meter has increased to level 1 it is up to you whether you should use the power of your meter for a quick kill, or wait for level 2 or ultimately your level 3 super. With each super level increasing brings upon a greater level of your super. As most have seen Kratos’s level 1 super, it being a short dash with a swing of his sword. Level 2 is a whirlwind high above him and lastly Kratos’s level 3 enables him to shoot sparks from his sword as well as jump across the level to swing his sword around hitting opponents too. As you reach each level they will also last longer than the previous level.

The premise behind building your super meter is to use your meter smartly and eliminate 1, 2 or if timed properly 3 of your foes and earn 2 points for each opponent you were able to eliminate. Have yourself eliminated and lose a point. A basic system, but rather daunting when faced against 3 other opponents at once. Things can become confusing when having so many characters on screen at once. To make matters worse is having each character the same. If you want to play as Kratos and so does everyone else, this is possible but very confusing and hard to follow yourself battling with the other opponents.

If you are a Vita owner then you are in luck. PS All Stars is a cross buy game. Meaning you buy PS All Stars once and get the game for both platforms. Nice to see Sony have these incentives when there is no difference between each game and would give no purpose in buying the game twice only to have the same game over again. However, I find myself playing more on the Vita then I do on the PS3 only because I have other things to play on the PS3. Some things function differently on the Vita due to having no L2 & R2 buttons, but feel very natural when playing. You want to pick up an item, simply tap the screen. Taunt your opponent, press select. Nothing feels missed when playing on the Vita. Sometimes the screen pans out which can make your character rather small and hard to see at times. I would’ve liked to have seen half the screen pan out perhaps without losing my character in size.

If you are a Trophy hunter, then this is a very achievable Platinum. You will only have to put in the time and grind away at it. Nothing is too difficult just time consuming. I would’ve liked to have seen some of the challenges in the game brought over into the Trophy list. (Maybe next time) The only issue I had was the trophies do not carry over from the PS3 to the Vita. You will have to play each character story line twice in order to get both trophies for each system. There are some small customizable options but nothing to over the top. Intro’s, Taunts and an extra costume and a few others. It’s nice to have your own spin on your character, but there is nothing to deep for customizing your characters.

Overall I have a lot of fun playing PS All Stars. Like I said I spend most of my time playing on the Vita and have come rather adapt to playing on a smaller screen. With free DLC on the way I think if you are into fighting games you should give this one a try.
