Walker's Panels - History
Walker Panels has gone through several moves and changes in its long history to become the company it is today. In 1967, second generation Walkers, Ken, Gordon, Alan and David became partners in a new incorporated company called Ed Walker's Electric Ltd. Also during 1967, they built and moved to occupy a new company location at 889 King Street, and included a new custom control panel division named Walker Panels. By this time the company was servicing many different sectors of the community including commercial, industrial, marinas, farms and residential. While Walker Panels was developing their main clientele, including RCA Midland, TRW Midland, and Arthur S. Leitch, they made thousands of controls ranging from simple Pump Alternating Starters to Inline Oven Burner Controls.
In November of 1993, Walker Panels made the move to its present location at 169 Bay Street. The building was completely renovated to house the company. The company would continue for another five years before seeing some major changes. The 70's saw system miniaturization and the beginnings of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) design. Walker Panels was in the forefront of the industry with production machinery for plant automation. In 1974, the 889 King Street building was expanded to house the growth of this division. The 80's saw fast-paced growth and technological progression with computers being introduced into control systems as well as bigger, faster, more complex PLC systems.
The company is proud to mention that fourth generation, Jeremy Walker, has taken ownership of the company contributing to Walker's overall success. During 1999, Walker Panels made major changes to prepare for the new millennium, including third-generation Glenn Walker, son of Gordon, taking the reins of the company in the absence of the retiring David.
And now today, Walker Panels is growing as a fully independent company, a Division of 1350223 Ontario Inc. One very important aspect of our company is a commitment to a Family Owned Structure. Today we remain under 3rd Generation, Glenn Walker's ownership and guidance, and managed by Phil Camin.
