Intimate Spaces Concert Series
The Intimate Concert series was designed to maximize the MCC's strengths in offering our audiences a very intimate, connected, experience.
Not every artist is best presented in a large theatrical setting. Folk & acoustic blues artists thrive on performing up close and personal in a setting where they can interact with audience members, and perform at a level which echoes the decades of success in folk-clubs, coffee-house and those special venues around the world that simply have a reputation for atmosphere, and for making the act the focal point of the evening.
In the Intimate concert series we draw the curtains in front of the main stage, and build a lower stage, where the audience are inches away from the artist. We use a smaller sound system, still comprised of our world-class equipment, allowing clarity and intimacy - we want our audiences to actually hear the singer through the air acoustically, with minimum reinforcement.
The overall goal of any concert is ... connection. We think this installment of our Intimate Spaces Concert Series will delight and lead you to a more powerful, shared and connected experience with the music. Enjoy!

Joe Crookston
Joe Crookston was named 2016 Folk Alliance International Artist in Residence, and is signed to Tamulevich Artist Management along with John Gorka and Peter Yarrow.
Joe is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, painter, and fiddler; just to name a few of his seemingly endless list of talents. He will lead you through mystical and humorous roads; visual, artful, and human.
Our intimate stage setup for the evening will only add to the feeling of connection Joe emanates at every show, and we’re sure you’ll leave at the end of the night inspired.

His songs are universal, his rhythm infectious and in concert, he is funny as hell one moment and transcendent the next.
He'll surprise you and awaken the cynics. He's excavating lyrical gold, like a social archaeologist.
With Special Guest Jesse Parent
Jesse is no stranger to the Midland Cultural Centre. We were first introduced this emerging artist’s soulful sound when he took the stage previously at the MCC, and we wanted to have him back as soon as possible. When we learned that Joe would be coming through Midland we knew he’d be the perfect act to get the crowd warmed up for Sunday’s performance.

The first thing to strike you about Jesse Parent is the voice.
Warm and resonant, it immediately draws you in with its emotional authenticity.
“It is a voice you can trust.”
Then there are his well-crafted songs, sporting strong melodies and perceptive lyrics that help illuminate the human condition.
Together, these skills mark the Kitchener/Waterloo-based singer/songwriter as a major talent, one to be watched closely.
