The next guest on “A Day in the Life”
is a fascinating and inspiring Canadian Peter O’Brian
Peter O’Brian is Canada’s foremost filmmaker. He has described his work as “a mission to help create a popular home cinema based on stories and characters which, without ambiguity, reflect our own aspirations and experiences, our own way of life”. It has been said of his films that they “should be considered part of our cultural heritage, just as much as award-winning books or paintings of the era”.He has served as Chair of TVO for 13 years. He was a founding board member of the Canadian Film Centre and was appointed by Norman Jewison to be Executive Director for the Centre’s first critical years of operation. But there is more to Peter’s life than his filmmaking. His father was a senior officer in the RAF and served as Aide-de-Camp to Queen Elizabeth II. Peter was a victim of sexual abuse at a boy’s private school in England. He was a member of a 1960s rock band. And he’s married to Dr. Carolyn Bennett, a physician and politician who currently serves as Canada’s Minister of Crown-Aboriginal Affairs.Tickets $25 at the MCC Box Office at (705) 527-4420 or online at www.midlandculturalcentre.com.
