Imagination Runs Wild
Here is a sneak preview of the play Peg and the Yeti for children
aged 3 and up with one performance at Midland Cultural Centre on Saturday,
April 18, 2015 at 10:30am. The video features interviews with director Pablo
Felices Luna and actor Jennifer Balen and tells the story of Peg who sets out
on a great adventure from her fishing village in the Maritimes to climb Mount
Everest.

Meet Jennifer Balen who plays the adventurous Peg in Peg and the Yeti that is adapted by
Monica Dufault from the children’s book by Kenneth Oppel. “I love performing in Peg and the Yeti because the kids in the audience are part of the
adventure.” says Jennifer. “It’s the story of Peg who sets out on a great quest
to climb the tallest mountain in the world. My parents (played by Mark Crawford
and Nicole Joy-Fraser) and all my friends in the audience help me on the
journey and we use our imaginations and our fun-filled set to travel across the
world by boat, by train and by water buffalo until we reach the top of a very
high mountain. It's the most fun I've ever had in a play.”
This successful production by Carousel Players will be seen by over 6000
children before it wraps up its tour on May 7th. We love getting mail - here's
excerpts from our letters about Peg and the Yeti and some drawings from
students who shared their favourite parts of the play with us.
"Dear Carousel Players. Thank you so much for your joyful presentation
of Peg and the Yeti. Your energy, enthusiasm and talent shone throughout your
performance. It was loved by all."
"All the children were so engaged and
felt like part of the action from the moment they climbed aboard. Staging was
brilliant!."
“What a great way to show young children how to use their imaginations.
Using everyday props helps the young child to be able to enter the imagination
world. Well done.”
We asked director Pablo Felices Luna to tell us what he likes most about
the play. "Peg and the
Yeti speaks a lot about how we as parents play with children and how hard
it is to be imaginative and creative with children all the time because they
want us to be. I also love its specificity for three to eight year olds.” We
asked Pablo if he were going on an adventure with the cast of Peg and the
Yeti – what would he pack in his backpack? Pablo says: a flashlight, a good camping knife, a warm and cozy blanket,
food (tasty and delicious) and a satellite phone to contact his family.
Original cast members Jennifer Balen and Mark Crawford and director
Pablo Felices Luna team up with actor Nicole Joy-Fraser and stage manager
Meghan Speakman in this new production of Peg and the Yeti. The creative
team includes set & costume designer Jackie Chau, sound design by Lyon
Smith and new lighting designs by Kirsten Watt.
