Quest Art - Steamroller Prints 2013

Quest Art presents its Signature Event Streamroller Prints 2013 during Huronia Foundation for the Arts’ ArtWalk. In its 5th year, the annual event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 17 at King and Elizabeth streets in Midland from 10am to 4pm. Eight local artists - Jennie Clark, Victoria Cowan, David Hill, Ron Hunt, Xavier Fernandes, Jesse James, Janet Phillips and Merrilyn Pinkney - will create large prints from woodcuts using an asphalt paver as a printing press. Artist Marilyn Green will give a woodblock carving demonstration. The event will also feature a silk screening t-shirt demonstration and two free youth/family activities where participants learn how to roll, and print a pre-carved wood or linoleum block as well as the printmaking technique using CD’s. One of each of the three limited edition prints created by the artists during the Steamroller Printmaking Event will be available for auction immediately after printing. Bids may be placed in the Quest Art Atrium Gallery (lower gallery), inside the Midland Cultural Centre, on clipboards found beneath each artist’s print. For more information visit: www.questart.ca

Brookside Summer Serenade 2013

Join Brookside Music Association for the final performance in the 2013 Summer Serenade, Alistair MacRae and Alison Pohl. Cellist Alistair MacRae has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral principal around the world. His playing has been praised for its “rich sound and lyrical phrasing” and his performances have been featured in radio broadcasts across the United States. He teaches cello at Prince- ton University, is on the faculty of the Brevard Music Center, and also maintains a private studio in New Jersey. Soprano Allison Pohl made her professional debut as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro under the baton of Maestro Stephen Lord at Boston Lyric Opera. In the 2013 season, she will debut with Opera in the Heights in Houston, Texas as Nannetta in Verdi’s Falstaff. She has performed numerous roles in productions around the world and in 2012 undertook a ten-city concert tour of China.

Quest Art Opening Reception

Quest Art School + Gallery is proud to present Nindede, a multi-generational exhibit featuring the work of Arthur, Travis and Bewabon Shilling. This is a one-of-a-kind exhibition featuring work which breaks through the boundaries of traditional Aboriginal art.
The opening reception on August 22, from 7 to 9 p.m., features a smudging ceremony, drummer and a taste of traditional foods. All are welcome to attend.
The show continues to October 26 and there is no charge to view the exhibition. Also taking place on August 22 is the opening reception of Works on Paper and the silent auction of the Steamroller Prints created on August 17. Works on Paper continues to October 21.

Town of Midland and Brookside Music Association present the Metis Fiddler Quartet – Tall Ships Weekend

Join the Métis Fiddler Quartet as they perform “Soldiers in Capotes”, an interdisciplinary performance integrating music, theatre and storytelling. The piece conveys the story of the capture of Fort Mackinac by the Métis corps de Voyageurs during the war of 1812. They will be joined by clarinetist Kornel Wolak, pianist Chris Donnelly and soprano Melanie Conly in this concert commemorating the War of 1812. Saturday, August 24, 2013 Doors: 7:00pm Show: 7:30pm
