North Simcoe Region Partners with CIRA to Measure Internet Performance
-----------------
In an effort to spur economic development, the North Simcoe Community Futures Development Corporation (NSCFDC) has partnered with the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) to launch an internet performance test for the region.
The goal of the internet performance test is to crowdsource data from the community on the state of the region’s internet to inform the business case for broadband investment.
In partnership with the Town of Midland, the
Town of Penetanguishene,
#TayTownship,
Township of Tiny, and the
#BeausoleilFirstNation, the
North Simcoe Community Futures Development Corporation is undertaking this project to assist in attracting investment to the area.
“Broadband internet is a catalyst for economic growth,” said Chris McLaughlin, general manager, NSCFDC. “Much like roads and sewers, a modern community of any size requires fast, reliable connectivity to attract investment and provide high- quality services.”
Residents and businesses can help their community attract more investment by testing the speed and quality of their internet connections using any web browser at
https://performance.cira.ca/northsimcoe.
As businesses of all sizes and sectors continue to rely on broadband internet access for growth, it has never been more important to understand the quality of those connections to determine if any gaps exist or improvements are needed.
CIRA’s Internet Performance Test is built on the globally recognized M-Labs testing technology, with test nodes across the country. The test operates independently from any major internet service provider network, which provides users with an overview of how their internet connection performs in real-world conditions.
“High-performance internet is the backbone for the smart community projects that help economies flourish and citizens engage,” said Dave Chiswell, vice president of product development, CIRA. “Our Internet Performance Test empowers communities, and individual citizens, to make informed decisions about their connectivity needs.”
