Hi to all and thanks to everyone who voted in this year’s municipal election. We want to thank the outgoing members of Council and welcome the passionate new members, who will help lead us to four years of prosperity.
An informed, engaged debate in the community and among the candidates on issues that matter served Midland well and was reflected not only in the voter turnout but also in the results.
It was gratifying to see many of the issues championed by Midlandcommunity.ca form a large part of candidates’ platforms and of the discussion during the election. Midlandcommunity.ca has invested significant resources over the last four years to get Midland engaged in issues that matter, and intends to maintain this momentum throughout the next term of Council.
Hosting candidate meetings, web sites, social media activity and placing newspaper ads consumes resources. We never want to be in the position of not engaging in an important matter because we lack funding.
In order to continue citizen engagement around issues that matter to Midland, we ask you to consider making a contribution of any amount you choose.
You can contribute easily through PayPal by going to our website at midlandcommunity.ca, or by sending a cheque to Midlandcommunity.ca, Midland, PO Box 282.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Now back to more routine business. We start this week making a presentation to the consultants retained to support and develop the Downtown Master Plan. We are reminded that very few Downtowns in the world have “book ends” as significant in value as Midland Bay Landing to the north and Little Lake Park to the south. The Downtown Master Plan is an exciting opportunity for Midland to link these assets and create a whole new success! Envision a Downtown that is an attraction in its own right; a Downtown that is a wealth of experiences linking the two main tourism assets of Midland and forging them into one.
We are fortunate to live in this beautiful place. Community engagement matters.
