With the recent announcement from our government that the lockdown is extended until early February, we looked at what we could do, and here is what is at the top of the list:

Second, we also want to continue making donations to our local charities. This past year, we have supported GBGH Foundation, Waypoint Centre for Mental Health, Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe, OSPCA Midland Branch, Hospice Huronia - Tompkins House, Huronia Pregnancy Resource Centre, and made a donation of 50 masks to 2 local schools. We are most appreciative of the support we've received from our community, and we are happy to give back. This next donation will go to Sistema Huronia Music Academy, who enable youth to better themselves through music.

The Sistema Music Program was founded in 1975 and today there are over 100 Sistema chapters globally. It uses the classical music ensemble experience to achieve positive social change in youth.
Sistema Huronia is a local chapter to help youth in Huronia, which historically covers most of Simcoe County.
Our mission is to build and sustain an intensive social program that provides free, ensemble-based music lessons to inspire children to realize their full potential as students, musicians and citizens.
Sistema Origins:
The El Sistema (The System) model from Venezuela exploded on the orchestra scene only a few years ago. However, the model developed by Jose Abreu more than 30 years ago in poverty-stricken neighbourhoods in Caracas, has already shown tremendous success in the USA, Canada and internationally. The mission of the free El Sistema program is to promote the collective practice of music through symphony orchestras in order to help children and young people achieve their full potential and create social change in their community. As of today, more than 300,000 children and youth participate in the program every year. Gustavo Dudamel, the world-famous music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, was one such student.

And last but not least, let's talk about masks. Recently, I caught a clip from a consumer show, discussing the effectiveness of non-medical masks. Their tests showed that a number of the masks allowed a lot of air in and out, and most were made of cotton or a cotton blend that had a low thread count or was very thin in texture.
We have carried the Frank Lyman masks since they first became available in spring 2020. We have them for women, men, and children in solid colours ( $12 ) and prints ( $16 and up ). They are all made in Montreal of 100% polyester, are washable and have an inner pouch so you can insert a coffee filter to give you a third layer of protection.
