The BIA board of directors is meeting tonight at 6:30pm at the ShopMidland.com Hub.
We invite all BIA members to join us to discuss the pending approval of a re-zoning request that would see the Guest House homeless shelter move to 522 Elizabeth Street, a couple of doors down from the Midland Public Library.
The motion to re-zone goes to Town Council for approval on Wednesday, June 4th and is currently supported by a majority of councilors, including Mayor Gord Mckay.
BIA directors Scott Campbell and Colin Pape were present at a meeting with Guest House CEO, Robert Sykes last night and expressed concerns held by many in the BIA.
Because of the short timeline between the first major communication between Mr. Sykes and the BIA and the pending council approval, we have put together a petition asking council to defer the vote until a later date so that we may have more time to get answers about key questions and ensure this is the best possible decision for all stakeholders in the community.
