BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD
Director: Benh Zeitlin
Cast: Quvenzhané Wallis, Dwight Henry, Lowell Landes and Pamela Harper
Runtime: 91 minutes
The “Bathtub” is a marginal (and fictitious) New Orleans district
inhabited by spirited and predominantly black inhabitants that face a
biblical deluge, and the musings of a six year old girl named
Hushpuppy, who lives with her dying father. Mixing magic realism and a
nature-drenched free-association style, this is a unclassifiable rarity.
Grand Jury Prize winner, 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
Location: Galaxy Cinemas, Mountainview Mall, Midland
Tickets are $10 at the door or in advance
at the Huronia Museum (705-526-2844). Yearly and seasonal subscriptions
are also available for $192 and $54, respectively.
