MDBWA MARCH 2011 NEWSLETTER

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:  Sunday, March 6, 2011

Hi Everyone,

I have to say I am kinda done with winter, but last night the snow looked so beautiful on the trees... and it covered up all the dirt.  ;)  Now to shovel...

This month, like every other, you don't want to miss our amazing guest speaker! (I almost want to register twice!!!) The first time I heard Sherry Lawson speak was at the Woman of the Year Awards, my first year as MDBWA President.  She had us laughing and crying at the same time! I am so excited to hear this lovely lady speak to us again.

More great news for our members, I would like to thank Lisa Cameron from ShopCity.com Inc. (ShopMidland.com / ShopPenetang.com) for volunteering to be our Newsletter Director.  Welcome aboard Lisa, so great to have you!!!

This newsletter is packed full of great information for YOU, our members, so please do it justice and READ it right to the end.

Looking forward to seeing you again, and meeting our newest members. Until then, be safe and have FUN!

Shirley Cowdrey
MDBWA President

BOOK OF THE MONTH:

Don't Stand Too Close! You
Might Get Some On You

by Sherry Lawson
Printed in Orillia, Ontario, Canada

Sherry Lynn Lawson (nee Douglas) is the author of two autobiographical books,  "I've Been Shot At, What's Your Excuse?" and "Don't Stand Too Close! You Might Get Some On You."

"Don't Stand Too Close! You Might Get Some On You" is the second publication from Sherry Lawson. Her books are easy and quick to read; each chapter telling another story from her life. You will laugh and you will cry, but you will thoroughly enjoy the journey.

Copies of Sherry's books will be available for sale at the March MDBWA dinner event for just $19.

The Ten Commandments of Great Customer Service

By Susan A. Friedmann
About.com - Relationship Marketing

Define "customer service". Is it simply the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase? Is it about about treating others as you would like to be treated yourself? Or is there more to it?

Check out this great article below from Susan A. Friedmann on relationship marketing strategies for your business!

"Customer service is an integral part of our job and should not be seen as an extension of it. A company’s most vital asset is its customers. Without them, we would not and could not exist in business. When you satisfy our customers, they not only help us grow by continuing to do business with you, but recommend you to friends and associates.

The practice of customer service should be as present on the show floor as it is in any other sales environment."

MARCH DINNER & NETWORKING EVENT

Date: Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Networking: 5:30 p.m.                Dinner: 6:30 p.m.                Speaker:  following dinner

Where: St. Marie Restaurant, 16845 Hwy. 12, Midland, ON L4R 4K8

__________________________________________________________________________

GUEST SPEAKER:  Sherry Lawson

FOCUS: "Exceptional Customer Service"

Sherry Lawson has travelled to many places around the world with her husband and has seen first-hand the ill effects of poor customer service.  For 10 years, as a Director at Casino Rama, Sherry became part of the team that won numerous awards for its outstanding customer service.   Sherry will give true life examples of good, bad and ugly customer service, and will urge audience members from the business community to really have a critical look at how they actually treat their customers.

Sherry Lawson (nee Douglas) is a band member of Mnjikaning/Rama First Nation near Orillia.  Born in the lean 50's on a small First Nation reserve, Sherry grew up listening to the stories of her paternal grandmother.  Sherry has held municipal, provincial and federal jobs.  She has worked as: a guidance counsellor to high risk students; a Justice of the Peace; a trainer; library technician; and a crisis manager (not all at the same time).  Sherry has been recognized several times as a stellar community volunteer.  Named Orillia's Business Woman of the Year in 2004 and Orillia's Citizen of the Year in 2010, Sherry is a sought after public speaker and author.  Mother of three, grandmother of three, and wife of just one, Sherry prefers to be known simply as a storyteller.
