ULTRAPOWER 600 SURGE PROTECTOR
You may not need the 8 outlets of the PS-802, but the PS-600 Power Extender is ideal for smaller systems. Whatever the size, you still need a PS Surge Protector to slam the door on surges, spikes, ground and noise, creating a veritable energy absorbing shield around connected components. Every device on the same AC line radiates noise and radio frequency interference (RFI) throughout the system.
Heating, cooling, hair dryers, refrigerators, fluorescent lighting, power tools – almost anything that runs on AC causes pollution. From the most basic protection to our most highly specified products we deliver the best value, reliability, versatility and flexibility imaginable. No matter how small or modest your system it benefits from surge protected, filtered power.

PowerSource PS-600
Multimedia Surge Protector
INTRODUCTION
All PowerSource products reflect our fundamental values of top build quality, leading-edge engineering, production and performance. We deliver the best value, reliability, versatility and flexibility imaginable from the most basic protection to our highest specified products. Surges, sags, spikes, noise; PowerSource products get out in front of these performance-robbing and potentially dangerous events with unprecedented AC control, filtering and system protection. In the event of a catastrophic power surge from a nearby lightning strike, your PowerSource unit will “absorb” the surge to save your connected components thus, rendering it ineffective for future use — we recommend that you replace the unit when this occurs. UltraPower products are the uncompromising gate-keepers to your system’s power supplies!
The PS-802 offers eight extra-widely-spaced outlets using broad-and narrow-band filters that eliminate noise riding the AC line. Your AC is shared with everyone on your transformer. Air conditioners and other big appliances send On/Off spikes through the line; computer and small device chargers draw power only at the top and bottom of the incoming 60Hz waveform creating ripples of distortion. Plus there is ground noise and other radiated interference both outside and from within your system. The PS-802 also uses advanced X3™MOVs that protect against surges and spikes with a user alert when it’s time to replace the unit — MOVs have a finite lifespan.
You may not need the 8 outlets of the PS-802, but the PS-600 Power Extender is ideal for smaller systems. Whatever the size, you still need a PS Surge Protector to slam the door on surges, spikes and ground noise, creating a veritable energy absorbing shield around connected components. From the most basic protection to our most highly specified products we deliver the best value, reliability, versatility and flexibility imaginable. No matter how small or modest your system it benefits from surge protected, filtered power.
PRODUCT INSTALLATION AND SAFETY GUIDELINES
PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THESE IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
CONNECT ONLY TO A PROPERLY GROUNDED AC WALL OUTLET
Do not plug this device into a power outlet differing in configuration or voltage from the source indicated for safe use on the device. Do not use converters or plug adapters of any kind to make the plugs fit. If you are unsure about the type of electrical power supplied to your home please consult your local power utility company for further information.
GROUNDING AND POLARIZATION
Your UltraPower PowerSource unit has a three-prong grounding-type AC plug. This plug is designed to be inserted into a grounding-type outlet only. If this plug doesn’t fit directly into your outlet do not attempt to force it. Never attempt to disassemble or modify the plug in any way or use an altered extension cord to make it fit into a two-prong outlet. The grounding feature is a necessary and important safety and design feature. Do not attempt to circumvent it by using a 3-to-2-prong adapter. If you do not have a properly grounded three-prong outlet available contact a properly trained and certified electrician to install one.
ROOF-TOP DEVICES
If you have roof-top devices such as satellite dishes, antennas or any other component with wire that connects to an UltraPower product, you must ensure that all wired connections are properly grounded to earth. Doing so will provide protection against voltage surges and static discharges. Do not place any antenna component near overhead power lines or any other power source. Do not touch any power line or power source. Doing so may cause severe physical injury and possibly death.
PRODUCT CARE AND CLEANING
The only cleaning necessary for your PowerSource product is a light, dry dusting. Do not use any type of liquid or aerosol cleaner. Always unplug the device from the wall before cleaning it.
MOISTURE AND LIQUIDS: AVOIDING ELECTRICAL SHOCK
Do not operate your PowerSource unit if liquid of any kind is spilled onto or inside the unit.
Do not operate your PowerSource unit near liquids of any kind; spilled, condensed or contained.
Do not operate your PowerSource in the bathroom, kitchen, basement floor or anywhere near a sink, bathtub, aquarium, indoor fountain, water cooler or any place where moisture is present.
COMPLETE AND PROPER POWER AND PROTECTION
Your PowerSource unit provides a protective shield around your system. To deliver clean power and fully protect your equipment against electrical surges, every single connecting cable in or out of your equipment must be connected to an appropriate UltraPower unit. There can be no unprotected pathways into or out of your system. This includes all power, signal, control, antenna, data, phone, internet, cable or other connection to all components within the system and any equipment of any kind connected to any component within the system in any way.
NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE
If, for any reason, your PowerGrid does not operate properly, do not open the unit or attempt to service it yourself in any way. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Turn off the power immediately and unplug the unit.
PROPER PROTECTION
Home theater, computer, network and telephone system installations are complex systems. If you require multiple surge protection devices we strongly recommended using all-UltraPower brand products. This may require the services of an experienced design consultant from your dealer or installer.
SET-UP INSTRUCTIONS PS-802 and PS-600
Remove the UltraPower PowerSource unit from its packaging and visually inspect for any shipping damage. If the housing is cracked or broken, do not use the unit and return it to your authorized dealer or custom installer for a replacement.
- Before plugging any PowerSource unit into the wall turn its power switch OFF and do the same with all other components connected to the PowerSource unit.
- Locate the AC wall outlet where your PowerSource will be installed and properly secure it.
- Plug the PowerSource directly into a properly grounded three-prong AC outlet.
- Turn the power switch of the PowerSource to the ON position.
PS-802 ONLY
Verify proper grounding of your AC wall plug’s wiring by consulting the LED indicator on the PowerSource PS-802. Make sure that theGREEN Ground OK LED is illuminated. If this is not the case, immediately disconnect the PS-802 from the wall and consult a certified electrician to correct the improper and unsafe wiring condition in your home.
Turn OFF the PowerSource with its illuminated power ON / OFF switch once the indicators on your PS-802 confirm that your AC wall outlet is properly wired. The GREEN Protection ON LED on your PowerSource unit indicates that all outlets are protected from harmful electrical surges.
PS-802 ONLY: Phone Line Protection
Connect phone, fax or modem line-out feed from the wall jack to the PowerSource PS-802 PHONE IN jack with an appropriate RJ11 type connector. Connect the PowerSource PS-802 PHONE OUT jack to the appropriate LINE-IN jack of your receiving component.
PS-802 ONLY: Coaxial Cable Lines
Connect cable or satellite coax cable to the PowerSource PS-802 CABLE / SAT IN F-type connector.Connect the PS-802 CABLE / SAT OUT F-type connector to the appropriate INPUT jack on your TV, set-top box, cable box, satellite receiver or DVR with an appropriate RG59 / RG6 F-type connector.
PowerSource™ PS-802 and PS-600
Audio and Video ComponentsPlug in the first chosen component to the appropriately labeled AC outlet on the PowerSource and turn on that component. Plug in the rest of your components one at a time to the appropriately labeled AC outlet on the PowerSource unit and turn on each component.
NOTE: Connect those components requiring high current (power amplifiers, powered subwoofers, etc.) in last.
NOTE: Powered subwoofers are frequently located at a distance from the rest of your equipment. DO NOT plug the powered subwoofer directly into an AC wall outlet. If you do your entire system will be unprotected since your powered subwoofer is plugged into an unprotected AC power line and that’s connected to the rest of the system by its line-level interconnect. Youmust have an additional PowerSource unit local to the powered subwoofer. Follow the above instructions for the subwoofer surge protector and connect the powered subwoofer to it. You may experience a hum from your subwoofer if it is plugged into an outlet on a different circuit than the rest of the system.
TROUBLESHOOTING
After connecting all your equipment to your PowerSource unit(s) and you do not have power to your components, perform thefollowing steps:
- Make certain that there is AC power supplied to your PowerSource component.
- Make certain that the PowerSource unit is turned ON with its power switch. If it is, check that it’s plugged into the wall and that the circuit breakers in the home are properly set and not tripped. PS-802 only: Press the circuit breaker reset switch.
- You have hooked up too many components or those requiring too much amperage exceeding the total rating of your PowerSource unit. In that case, contact your dealer / installer and discuss your system requirements and any additional PowerSource units that may be required to properly protect your system.
- If there is still no power to your components, disconnect the equipment from the PowerSource and check each one by plugging it directly into the wall socket. If they work, then it is likely that the PowerSource unit did its job and protected your components from a catastrophic surge. PowerSource components are designed to leave the circuit “open” and not allow any AC through to prevent further damage and to alert you of the problem. Contact your dealer / installer and replace the PowerSource unit — it did itsjob properly!
PS-802 only: If your TV or monitor has no picture or sound, check the following:
- Make sure that your cable/satellite Receiver is plugged in and turned on.
- Check the coaxial connections to make sure that they are correctly and securely installed making sure that “outputs” go to “inputs”.
- Bypass the coax connectors by connecting the cables directly to the components. If your picture returns, the PS-802 may be damaged.
- If after bypassing the PowerSource unit you still have no picture or sound, a problem with your cable provider’s signal or the satellite or antenna installation may exist.
- Check to see if your connected telephone/fax is receiving a dial tone. If not, bypass the surge protector’s phone jacks by connecting the equipment directly to the wall jack. If your dial tone returns the PS-802 may be damaged. If you still have no dial tone there is a problem with your phone company’s lines.
